A BMW M760i story: the right car starts with listening.

An adapted first-person story about understanding a buyer’s needs, staying in touch and the unexpected timing of a BMW M760i sale.

Some conversations take months

Car transactions can move quickly, but the relationship does not always follow the same timeline. This story began months before the sale, when a couple spoke with me at a former dealership about what they wanted from a car. They had detailed questions, including whether an Audi RS5 could display CarPlay navigation prompts in the instrument cluster. They were paying attention to how a car would feel and work in everyday use.

Listen to the requirement behind the model name

After a quiet period, they contacted me again about finding an Alpina B6. I checked with contacts and invited them to see what we had. Their brief was memorable: powerful, yet quiet. That phrase mattered more than steering them toward a car simply because it was available. A BMW M760i became an option worth considering.

The timing did not cooperate at first

They decided to proceed, but on the day we expected to move ahead, the M760i was sold through another salesperson. Having an interested buyer and a suitable car does not mean the timing will work. In this case, the story paused rather than ending with the transaction we had expected.

A later visit brought another opportunity

During a later visit around the Mid-Autumn Festival, we talked again while handling paperwork. The customer described recent travel and the attention he had paid to how things were changing. He also brought a thoughtful gift. What stayed with me was the sense that the relationship and our work had earned trust, even after the earlier disappointment.

A V12, and the reason the story stayed with me

There was another chance to test a vehicle, and the story eventually led to a V12 sale. The engine made a memorable headline for the original post. The more useful lesson was quieter: listen closely, know what the customer values, and keep treating the relationship with care when the first deal does not happen.

What that means for OC Auto Buy

This is a personal account from my earlier dealership work, adapted from my Chinese-language post. It is not an OC Auto Buy customer testimonial or a claim of affiliation with that dealership. Today, the same approach matters when reviewing a seller’s car: ask clear questions, understand the facts and avoid promising an outcome before the review is complete.
